What Chocolate Teaches

A parent and a special education teacher recently teamed up to help students understand what the word fair means. Fair does not always mean treating everyone exactly the same. Fair means 

that everyone gets what they need. To show this concept they gave children two different types of chocolate to taste. Both looked identical but they tasted differently. One was bitter and the other sweet. They told students that sometimes, people with autism perceived sensations that most people enjoy as painful or distasteful.
