Children's Special Health Services

The Division of Children’s Special Health Services is located in the North Dakota Department of Health. This Division provides services for children with special health care needs and their families, and promotes family-centered, community-based, coordinated services and systems of health care.

ND Developmental Disabilities Services

Developmental Disabilities provides support and training to individuals and families in order to maximize community and family inclusion, independence, and self-sufficiency; to prevent institutionalization; and to enable institutionalized individuals to return to the community. To achieve this goal, Developmental Disabilities contracts with private, nonprofit and for-profit organizations to provide an array of residential services, day services, and family support services.

The North Dakota School for the Deaf/Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NDSD/RCDHH) is an educational institution for the education of persons of all ages with severe to profound hearing loss that looks at the individual needs of the child and family.

North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities

The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities advocates for policy changes that promote choice, independence, productivity and inclusion for all North Dakotans with developmental disabilities (DD). The Council supports and provides funding for projects and activities that maximize opportunities for consumers and families. The NDSCDD serves in planning and advisory capacity to state policymakers and agencies relative to services for persons with developmental disabilities.

North Dakota Vision Services/School for the Blind (NDVS/SB) provides statewide leadership, center based programming, and regionalized outreach services ensuring that the specialized needs of persons of all ages who are blind or visually impaired are met.

The North Dakota Dual Sensory Project

The North Dakota Dual Sensory Project is funded by the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education. The mission of the Project is help state educational agencies (SEAs), local education agencies (LEAs), Part C lead agencies, early intervention service providers, teachers, service providers, and families address the educational, related services, transitional, and early intervention needs of children who are Deaf-Blind to ensure that these children will graduate from high school ready for competitive employment, postsecondary education or independent living options.

NDSU Parent Education Network

The NDSU Parent Education Network provides research-based parent education to families. Each center is affiliated with the NDSU Extension Service Parent Education Network which provides for ongoing training, collaboration, delivery and evaluation of consistent programs across the state. Programs are delivered with funding support from the North Dakota Department of Human Services - Child Protection and local education agencies.
