What is Direct 1-to-1 Support?
Direct Support, also referred to as technical assistance, is one of PSND's identified scopes of service. The goal of Direct Support is to educate and empower individuals by helping them understand their rights and guiding them along a pathway to success. We encourage individuals to be problem-solvers and to be a part of the conversation, allowing them to communicate their needs and build partnerships with schools.
Our Specialists help you to...
- Understand your rights.
- Prepare for and participate in meetings in ways that help to meet your personal goals.
- Understand the state systems and processes for available services and support.
- Achieve successful outcomes based on developing goals related to unique needs.
What Specialists do...
- They listen, so that individuals feel heard and deeply understood.
- They do not judge
- They help families and youth to reach out to appropriate partners in the statewide systems and move from a position of talking past each other to a position of deep trust, respect, and team competence.
- They offer strategies, solutions, and ideas that will benefit the whole team in working together to provide individuals with services and supports for their unique needs.
- They reassure individuals that their underlying concerns for their child's or their own well-being are completely legitimate.
